Hanging around at the Golden Coconut

Unser erster Tag unter dem Motto "Powerchillen". Es regnete den ganzen Tag, aber das war uns total egal. Man kann auch bei strömenden Regen in den Pool. Wenn's 30 C hat. Erst am späten Nachmittag gingen wir mit dem Chef des Golden Coconut zum Strand, um den Fang der Fischer zu bestaunen.

Sonst war außer viel 'rumhängen, essen, trinken und schlafen nichts zu tun. Herrlich.

Our first day was all about doing nothing at all. It was raining all day, but we couldn't care less. You can swim in the pool easily while it's raining cats and dogs. As long as the temperature doesn't drop below 30 C. Which it didn't. Late afternoon we headed with the boss of the Golden Coconut to the beach and looked at the daily haul of the local fishermen.

That's it apart from hangin' around, eating (very well!), drinking (plenty) and sleeping. Awesome!

Letzter Tag Rundreise / Last day roundtrip

Der Wecker war –wie gestern- auf 5:30 gestellt, um den Sonnenaufgang zu erleben. Und es hat sich gelohnt. Wir sind pünktlich um 9 aufgebrochen, um den letzten Tag mit Ajith zu verbringen. Diverse Tempel, diverse Wasserfälle, Plantagen und einen schönen Strand. Angekommen in unserer neuen Bleibe haben Paul und ich erstmal den Pool getestet und dann hatten wir ein großartiges Abendessen.

Das Hotel in Sri Lanka, wo wir nur chillen und abhängen, das erste Hotel in deutscher Hand und das erste Hotel ohne Wifi. War ja klar….

The alarm was set to sunrise and weh ad –again- a spectacular view. We set off exactly at 9 pm and had our last day with Ajith on our roundtrip. It was some temples, some waterfalls, some pantations (Rubber, Pepper and so on) and a beautiful beach.

First thing when we arrived on our destination was to test the pool. At least Martin and Paul did. Afterwards we had a very special dinner and then we drank and talked through the night with the owners.

It is, by the way, our first hotel in Sri Lanka that is just for chilling, hanging around and it’s the first hotel in German possession. It’s also the first without WiFi. We should have known…

Ella

Heute war so eine Art Tag ohne großes Programm. Wir sind morgens zu einem Wasserfall gewandert (ein kleiner Spaziergang von ca. 40 Minuten bis dorthin; alles auf den Bahnschienen) und dann am späten Vormittag / Mittag auf den Little Adams Peak. Na ja, wenn ich sage "wir", dann sind Imke und Paul gemeint. Sowohl ich als auch Hannah haben auf halber Strecke die Segel gestrichen.

Dann sind wir noch bei einem Luxusresort vorbei und haben lecker was getrunken. Das war's für heute. Rest ist chillen.

Today was not very busy. We went to visit a waterfall nearby (about 40 minutes by foot - all along the railway tracks), stayed for a couple of minutes and went to the Little Adams Peak. Well, not all of us: Hannah and Martin decided to be unfit for such folly and turned around halfway.

Then we took a break at a posh resort and that's it really, folks. What remains for the day is a bit of hanging around and that's it.

Auf dem Weg nach Ella / On the way to Ella

Heute haben wir mal recht pünktlich Feierabend, ich fange den Blog um 17:00 Uhr Ortszeit bei Tageslicht an. Ist auch mal was neues...

Wir sind heute morgen von unserer Luxusabsteige in Kandy aufgebrochen, um in Nuwara Eliya die Bahn zu besteigen um nach Ella zu gelangen: Unsere heutige Luxusabsteige. Es kam mal wieder ganz anders...

Erster Stop war eine Buddha-Statue noch in Kandy (oder eher über Kandy. Von dort hatte man einen tollen Blick auf die Stadt). Das Teil ist ca. 30 Meter hoch (88 feet), sodaß er in die Top-Ten der Riesenbuddhas auf Sri Lanka gehört. Dort trafen wir ein paar Italiener, die wir gleich darauf aufmerksam machten, daß wir ja wohl Weltmeister sind. Fanden die aber nicht ganz soooo lustig.

Auf dem Weg nach Nuwara Eliya wurde das Wetter immer schlechter; wir verzichteten daher auf eine Bahnfahrt durch den Nebel und fuhren halt mit Ajith direkt zum Hotel.

Der Ausblick vom Balkon aus ist einfach spektakulär!

Today we actually arrived by daylight. Normally we check in in our hotel well into the darkness, but today it went quite well.

Today it was planned to drive to Nuwara Eliya to catch the train to Ella, but it turned out different.

Our first stop was a huge Buddha Statue on top of Kandy. This thing is 88 feet high and qualifies in the top ten of huge Buddhas in Sri Lanka. There we met some Italians and we couldn't help ourselves to point out to them that we are World-Champions. That didn't go down on them well.

The weather on our way to Nuwara Eliya grew worse and worse so we decided to cancel the train trip and drive directly to the hotel.

The view from our Balcony (which is so large we could easily play a game of football here) is absolutely breathtaking.

Kandy

Unser erster (und wahrscheinlich auch einziger) Tag der Rundreise ohne großes 'rumgekurve. Alles in der Stadt bzw. Stadtnähe.

Erster Stop nach dem vorzüglichen Frühstück war der Zahntempel. Augenscheinlich wird dord in einem Reliquienschrein ein Zahn des Buddah ausgestellt; ich habe ungefähr eine halbe Sekunde Zeit gehabt einen Blick zu erhaschen bevor ich weggeschubst wurde...

Fotografieren war nicht möglich. 

Nächster Halt war der Botanische Garten. Da gab's deutlich mehr zu Knipsen. 

Dann eine Tanzaufführung (soooo richtig touristisch) inclusive über heiße Kohlen laufen. 

Der Schluss- und Höhepunkt war das Essen. Sehr, sehr, sehr, sehr geiles Curry nur für uns. 8 Verschiedenen Curry  Reis.
